OCR and HIPAA enforcement

Office of Civil Rights presentation will go over its regulatory enforcement areas with a focus on the core requirements of the Breach Notification Rule. It will also cover common noncompliance issues found in large breach cases as well as provide an update on OCR's recent enforcement activities.

Sarah Chun Brown
Ms. Brown has been an investigator with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office for Civil Rights since 2003. She investigates cases involving the HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules, as well as Federal civil rights laws that promote equal access to health and social services. Ms. Brown has been actively involved in HIPAA monetary resolution cases from OCR's Seattle Regional office both as an investigator, supervisor, and deputy regional manager. She received her undergraduate degree from Wellesley College and her law degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law.
